The Tagus riverfront promenade stretches for kilometres along the water's edge, offering one of Lisbon's most scenic walking and cycling routes. Lined with contemporary sculptures and shaded seating areas, it invites residents and visitors alike to slow down and soak in panoramic views of the river and the Vasco da Gama Bridge.
At sunrise, the promenade transforms into a peaceful haven for joggers and yoga practitioners, while sunset brings families, couples, and photographers drawn to the golden light reflecting off the water. The wide, flat path is ideal for strollers and wheelchairs, making it one of the most accessible green corridors in the city.
Several waterfront terraces and cafés dot the route, perfect for a leisurely coffee or a glass of Portuguese wine while watching sailboats glide past. Weekend markets occasionally pop up along the promenade, offering artisan crafts, local produce, and live music that add a festive atmosphere to this beloved public space.
The Oceanário de Lisboa is Europe's largest indoor aquarium and one of the most visited attractions in Portugal, welcoming over a million visitors each year. Designed by architect Peter Chermayeff, its striking modernist building appears to float on the waters of the Parque das Nações basin, creating a dramatic first impression before you even step inside.
Inside, the central tank holds five million litres of seawater and is home to sharks, rays, ocean sunfish, and countless tropical species, all visible from multiple levels and angles. Four surrounding habitats recreate the ecosystems of the North Atlantic, Antarctic, Tropical Indian, and Pacific Oceans, complete with birds, otters, and lush vegetation.
Temporary exhibitions and immersive installations add a creative, artistic layer to the experience, often blending nature with contemporary art. The Oceanarium also runs extensive educational programmes for children and families, making it both a world-class scientific institution and a genuinely magical day out, all just a 10-minute walk from the apartment.

Several bakeries within walking distance serve exceptional versions, and the ritual of pairing one with a strong bica (espresso) is a quintessentially Portuguese experience.
The Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre food court and the restaurants lining Alameda dos Oceanos offer cuisines from across the globe, sushi, Indian, Italian, Brazilian, and more. On weekends, the riverside terrace restaurants fill up quickly, so arriving early rewards you with prime waterfront seats and the freshest catches of the day.
